Director Jonathan Demme has passed away at the age of 73. The Oscar-winning filmmaker is best known for his movies such as Silence of the Lambs and Philadelphia. He also directed the seminal 1984 Talking Heads concert movie Stop Making Sense.


The news of the filmmaker’s death was confirmed by his family. According to them, he died on the morning on april 26 from complications due to heart disease and esophageal cancer.

In 1973, Demme released a blaxploitation movie called Black Mama White Mama which he shot in the Philippines for budgetary reasons.
