royal marriage rules

There’s a growing list of non-royal ladies who have married handsome Princes. And you can be part of it!

Prince Harry of Wales might set to marry American actress Meghan Markle really soon. Markle could very soon become one of a dozen in the growing list of non-royal ladies who married handsome Princes. In the 50’s, American actress Grace Kelly became Princess Of Monaco after marrying Prince Rainier III. Student Kate Middleton became Duchess of Cambridge after marrying Prince William, Duke of Cambridge. And Charlene, Princess of Monaco became so after meeting her husband Prince Albert II in a swimming competition!

So you must be wondering how these ladies made these royal Princes fall in love with them? Well there’s a lot of things to do than just simply win his heart. There are rules! Here’s some of them.

Rule 1: Remember, you can meet your Prince anywhere.

You probably won't find him on Tinder or at 7/11 – but also keep in mind that Crown Princess Mary, then marketing executive Mary Donaldson, did meet Prince Frederik in a bar in Sydney. And when fun and exuberant Argentinian Maxima Zorreguieta – now Queen Maxima – met future Dutch King Willem-Alexander during a street festival Spain, she had no idea he was a Prince. In fact, she thought he was joking when he finally told her the truth. So the first thing to do is hope for the best that you would someday meet a real life Prince.

Rule 2: Study hard.

Kate Middleton, the first commoner to marry a British heir to the throne in more than three centuries, first met Prince William in college. Italian journalist Beatrice Borromeo met her prince not at a ball, but while studying with him at Bocconi University in Milan. You just gotta ask your classmates.

Rule 3: Get sporty.

Since Princes are obviously looking for good role models to represent their nation, elegance and grace seem to be high on their list of priorities. Case in point: Prince Albert's wife Princess Charlene of Monaco, an accomplished Olympic swimmer who dove right into her role.

Rule 4: Don’t be afraid to break up

After Prince William and Kate broke up in 2007, Kate was famously spotted out and about having a great time. Kate later said, “I think you can get quite consumed by a relationship when you are younger and I really valued that time for me (the months apart) although I didn't think it at the time.”

Rule 5: Be yourself.

In a true royal fairytale, there's no need to be anything but real. Case in point: Crown Princess Mette Marit, who was already a single mother when she fell in love with Crown Prince Haakon Of Norway. Princess Sofia was also an unconventional royal bride. Before she married Prince Carl Philip of Sweden, she was Sofia Hellqvist, TV star.
