Critics are slamming the casting of Scarlett Johansson in the film adaptation of a Japanese manga and anime.
A viral ad campaign for the upcoming live-action adaptation of the Japanese manga Ghost in the Shell, was uploaded to the internet recently. However, it immediately received backlash for the casting of American actress Scarlett Johansson as the Major, the protagonist of Ghost in the Shell.
Johansson’s role in the film has been criticised for some time. Many commentators, fans, and critics voiced their desire for a Japanese actress to have been cast as The Major instead.
So when the recent ad campaign for the film dropped, critics immediately made fun of the poor decision of casting a White actress over an appropriate one.
