Ewan McGregor on ‘Beauty and the Beast’s gay character

Actor Ewan McGregor responds to the criticism Beauty and the Beast received for featuring a gay character.

Star Wars actor Ewan McGregor appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert yesterday, where the host asked him what he thought about the little backlash the Disney movie Beauty and The Beast received for featuring a gay character.

Beauty and the Beast which Y101 will premiere tomorrow at Robinsons Galleria Movieworld, caused controversy in countries like Malaysia and Russia, with the latter banning the film because it goes against the nation’s “anti-gay policy”.


So when the Late Show host asked everyone’s second favorite Scottish actor over the “little bit of controversy” surrounding the sexuality of Josh Gad’s character LeFou in the movie, McGregor gave a simple reply.

It’s just like, he’s a gay character,” he said. “It’s 2017, for f--k’s sake!

He also joked: “There’s a lot of gay sex in this cartoon, and I think if you live anywhere near Alabama you should not go and see this film. What would Jesus think?
