The next season of Game of Thrones is welcoming an unlikely guest; Ed Sheeran!
During a Game of Thrones panel conference at the SXSW Music and Film Interactive this morning, it was revealed that pop superstar Ed Sheeran will be landing a role on the fantasy series’ next season.
The news was revealed by the series’ showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss during a panel with actors Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner. They confirmed that that they've been pursuing the Shape of You singer for awhile, and that they finally made Sheeran's cameo happen for the next season, which premieres on July 16.

“For years, we tried to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie, and this year we finally did it,” Benioff said nodding to Williams who is a big fan of the musician.
No other details on Sheeran’s character or storyline were revealed, and a spokesperson from HBO confirm that he’ll really be guest-starring, simply saying, “He has a role. No more details.”
