This half-Filipino singer’s slow jam Versace on the Floor is number one on Y101’s Weekly Top 20.

This week on the Weekly Top 20, Bruno Mars’ second single Versace on the Floor, taken from his recent album 24K Magic, has topped this week’s chart, replacing The Weeknd’s Starboy from the spot.

The song was released on November 4, 2016 and became an epic slow jam hit that slowly climbed up hit charts in months. Originally Versace on the Floor had six versions, Bruno Mars called its original demo a "poolside version". According to Mars, the version had a "piña colada vibe", and contained lyrics such as "fly through a storm on a unicorn ... Make love on a mountain, bathe in a fountain.”

But not wanting to create poolside music, Mars and his team remixed the beat. The resulting version featured the same lyrics but had a "more epic musical track". According to Mars, the original poolside version was about to be included on the album but "something" was bothering him.

"We're painting this picture – both in silk, I'm promising the world. But I'm not singing. This is supposed to be a big ballad on the album, but I'm not giving it to 'em! If we're gonna really, dramatically slow things down, I've got to be singing some sh!t”, Mars recalled in an interview with Rolling Stone.

Mars and his team rewrote the lyrics and melody and became the Versace on the Floor you hear on Y101. Mars described Versace as a "Boyz II Men–ish anthem that climaxes with an indelible hook. He says he “wanted to re-create the feeling of the R&B he fell in love with as a kid".

Mars grew up in Hawaii where he was known as the youngest Elvis Presley impersonator. He grew up to a diverse range of music, one of which are Michael Jackson, The Police, Damian Marley, Boyz II Men and this guy.
