The Doors frontman was then sprayed with a mace on the face by the police, whom he later taunted. Check out the story here.

Jim Morrison, The Doors’ legendary frontman was still 23 years old on December 7, 1967. His birthday would arrive the next day, so to celebrate his then-upcoming birthday, he and the band performed a show in New Haven, Connecticut.

But before the show even began, Jim Morrison was already in trouble. A policeman found him making out with an 18 year-old girl in a backstage shower. The cop, not recoognizing Morrison, asked the couple to leave. But Morrison refused to and an argument ensued between the two men. The cop then proceded to spray mace on Morrison’s face. Somebody then pointed out to the cop that the person he maced was the lead singer of the band about to play later.

Once on stage Morrison tells the story of the backstage episode and starts taunting the cop who later dragged him offstage to arrest him. Morrison launched into a diatribe against the cop, calling him a “little blue man in a little blue hat.” After saying that the “little blue pig” maced him and that “they’ll do it to you,” the police rushed the stage and arrested Morrison, charging him for inciting a riot, public obscenity (he dropped the f-bomb a couple of times) and indecency.

The crowd riots leaving the venue in disarray and many were arrested. Later over 100 protestors gathered at the police station in demonstration and more arrests were made.

Jim Morrison will be this Friday night’s Bootleg Gold’s featured artist. Don’t miss two hours of fantastic songwriting, groovy melodies, and a lot of charm.
