American Idol Producer sues Philip Philips

Producers from the discontinued talent singing show American Idol is suing their champ Philip Philips for holding out money from them.

19 Entertainment, the producer of American Idol which filed for bankruptcy in late April is now suing Season 11 winner Philip Philips for allegedly witholding $1 Million in management fees. Philips is not paying up for the producers’ managerial services and they want him to pay $5 million for refusing and breaching various agreements.

American Idol Producer sues Philip Philips

Last year in January, Philips aimed to escape a management agreement by petitioning with the California Labor Commissioner asserting that 19 Entertainment “manipulated” him into accepting jobs and being in violation of California's Talent Agencies Act. Philips reported that he was compelled to take jobs that were of benefit to the company and its affiliates rather than to him.

19 Entertainment says the 2012 Idol stopped paying management fees when he filed the 2015 complaint with the Labor Commission – begging out of his contract. The petition Philips filed wasn’t settled. It was delayed when 19 Entertainment filed for bankruptcy in April. The company thinks Philips should pay up the money now because it still has a valid contract with him until a court says otherwise.

Philips’ lawyer says 19 Entertainment’s merely taking advantage of its bankruptcy status.

It looks like Philip Philips needs someone to stand by him right now.
