Why didn’t Leo become a Jedi, the Boy Wonder, and Spidey?

The internet’s beloved actor, Leonardo DiCaprio has just finished shooting his latest movie The Revenant where he plays a real-life frontiersman on a quest for survival after being brutally mauled by a bear. His role in the new movie will become part of his impressive oeuvre of acting roles that include a racist plantation owner in Django Unchained, Howard Hughes in The Aviator, the fictional Jay Gatsby in The Great Gatsby, and a lot more iconic roles in the films Inception, Titanic, and The Wolf of Wall Street.

The five-time Oscar nominated actor has revealed in an interview with ShortList, that his collection of iconic roles could have included a jedi knight, a DC sidekick and a Marvel superhero.

In the interview, he confirmed long-held rumors that he was approached for roles in big budget blockbusters but turned them down.

He was approached by Star Wars creator George Lucas and was offered a role to play the young Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels.

"I did have a meeting with George Lucas about that, yes." "I just didn't feel ready to take that dive. At that point,” DiCaprio said in the interview.

The role eventually went to Hayden Christensen, who starred in the last two Star Wars prequel movies.

He also revealed that he had a meeting with Joel Schumacher for a role in Batman Forever.

I never screen-tested,” he revealed. “I had a meeting with Joel Schumacher. It was just one meeting and, no, I didn’t end up doing it.”

He revealed that he was opted for the role of the boy wonder Robin, but he said “As I recall I took the meeting, but didn’t want to play the role. Joel Schumacher is a very talented director but I don’t think I was ready for anything like that.”

He had also the same comment when he was approached for the role of Peter Parker in Spiderman. "That (Spider-Man) was another one of those situations, similar to Robin, where I didn't feel ready to put on that suit yet. They got in touch with me."

The role eventually went to his best friend Tobey Maguire.

However, the actor revealed that he may someday consider playing a superhero in the big screen. "You never know. You never know. They're getting better and better as far as complex characters in these movies. I haven't yet. But no, I don't rule out anything."
