The 73rd Golden Globe Awards honored the best in film and American television of 2015 and was broadcast live on January 10, 2016 from The Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California.

English comedian Ricky Gervais hosted the Golden Globes for the fourth time after previously hosting in 2010, 2011, and 2012.

Unlike the Academy Awards also known as the Oscars, the Golden Globes winners are voted by 90 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The Globes award the best movies and American television shows from the previous year unlike the Oscars who limit the nominations to only movies.

This year, the best picture awards were awarded to The Revenant and The Martian; the prior winning for Best Drama, and the latter for Best Musical or Comedy.

The Revenant's Leonardo DiCaprio won best Actor beating out Eddie Redmayne in The Danish Girl. This means DiCaprio will have a better chance of winning an Oscar this time. DiCaprio has also won a Golden Globe before for his performance in 2004's The Aviator.

Matt Damon won best actor in a Comedy performance for The Martian.

Brie Larson won the best actress in a drama performance for Room while Jennifer Lawrence won the best actress in a comedy performance award in Joy.

Sylvester Stallone and Kate Winslet won best supporting role performances respectively for the films Creed and Steve Jobs.

Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu won best director for The Revenant after not winning the award last year for Birdman.

Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin won best screenplay for Steve Jobs. Sorkin won the award back in 2010 for The Social Network.

Italian composer Ennio Morricone won the Golden Globe for his score on The Hateful Eight. Morricone last won a Golden Globe in 1999 for the Italian movie The Legend of 1900.

Sam Smith and his co-composer Jimmy Nampes won Best Original Song for Writings on the Wall for the 24th James Bond film Spectre.

In American Television, Best Series were awarded to Mr. Robot for Drama, and Mozart in the Jungle for Musical or Comedy.

John Hamm was awarded Best Actor for his performance as Don Draper in Mad Men after winning the award in 2007 for the same role.
