The actor that has immortalized J.K. Rowling's Professor Snape passed away.

While all of us are still in shock in David Bowie's sudden departure, veteran British stage and film actor Alan Rickman passed away just yesterday. He died surrounded by family and closest peers and he was apparently battling cancer. While all of us younger generation fans praised him for his portrayal of Professor Snape in the Harry Potter series, he was also best known for his performance as Hans Gruber in Die Hard and on stage especially with the theatrical hit Private Lives.

He was good at being the antagonist as apart from his portrayal as Hans Gruber, he also played as the sheriff of Nottingham in Robbin Hood: Prince of Theives and Judge Turpin in Tim Burton's Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Those from different generations can attest that he had a presence that commanded stature and languid diction. Harry Potter star Danielle Radcliffe expressed his gratitude by saying that Rickman was "one of the greatest actors I will ever work with" as well as "one of the [most loyal] and most supportive people I've ever met in the film industry".

Aside from being known in front of the camera, he also worked as a director for different projects. He directed period drama A Little Chaos and in 2005, Rickman directed the award-winning play My Name is Rachel Corrie, which he and Katharine Viner compiled from the emails of the student who was killed by a bulldozer while protesting against the actions of the Israel Defense Forces in the Gaza Strip. He was also into voice acting and every time his performances would make you more drawn to his list of talents.

Superbly accomplished and extremely talented, his voice and stature will live on in the hearts of those close to him and those who favored his work. Rest in peace.
