With jury selection in the trial of Dr. Conrad Murray scheduled to begin Thursday, lawyers for the man accused of killing Michael Jackson have filed an emergency request to delay the trial.

The issue is a judge's decision last August to deny a defense request to sequester the jury.  Murray's team is now appealing that decision, saying in part that Jackson's superstar status will make it impossible for non-sequestered jurors to avoid exposure to media coverage of the trial, which could prejudice their opinion against Murray.  Barring that, the petition asks the appeals court to reverse a previous order allowing cameras in the courtroom, and cites the recent Casey Anthony trial in Florida as an example of how courtroom cameras there allegedly fed public prejudice against Anthony.

As of now, opening arguments in the Conrad Murray trial are scheduled for September 27th.
